And naturally, we end the trifecta of wrestling shows tonight with the worst of the three. The first three matches were average at best, and then Hamada finally got to showcase her stuff. The matches to finish were not horrible, but not anything great.

I am still intrigued by the Knockouts Tag Title Tournament. They barely have enough women for the 8-team tournament, but they can always sign more female wrestlers if they need to. In the meantime, I am looking forward to the first-round tag match in this tournament where Sarita and Alissa Flash can go against one another again.

Match of the Night: CM Punk vs. Jeff Hardy

Trash of the Night: Christian vs. William Regal (a.k.a. the 6-second squash)

Three Stars: (T-1) CM Punk and Jeff Hardy; (T-3) DX and Legacy

Analysis: The opener between Mysterio and Ziggler cemented Ziggler's place as a serious contender and a future main eventer.

Swagger and MVP looked fine, but it was just your basic singles match I could see on any free TV show.

The Unified Tag Title match was very well done. JTG's struggle in the Walls of Jericho was exciting. It just missed three stars in my book, however, because Shad was somehow knocked out after taking Big Show over the top rope, yet Show recovered and decked JTG with the right cross after JTG had gotten to the ropes to break the submission. Show's quicker recovery didn't make much sense to me, and also, a similar finish was done on Smackdown two days prior.

Kane v. Khali was better than I expected, but that doesn't mean it was actually very good. I will say that I was ready to stamp it a DUD before the match even began, but happily didn't have to.

DX's return provided an amazing tag match. Let's face it: I was also expecting Legacy to go down in an average tag match (at best) much like the Spirit Squad did back in the day. But thankfully, I was wrong. The last few minutes took me back to the 2002 and 2003 days where tag matches featured main eventers, the crowd was hot, sure wins were broken up at the last second, and everyone was not shy in hitting finishers. Even in defeat, Legacy was put over as a serious threat.

Christian squashing Regal basically made ECW look like an embarrassment to professional wrestling. Matt Striker barely had any air time in this one. At least Josh Matthews did a backstage segment.

Regarding the WWE Title match, I had to re-watch it to figure out what the hell happened. And I'm glad I did that. Despite what some people perceive (really because they may have just watched it once), the WWE Title match was headed for three stars anyway even before the mass confusion. The confusing ending provided a bit more action to get it to three. Although I didn't care for the numerous restarts (and Lilian's botching of the announcements), I figure it will be woven into RAW tomorrow when Orton talks. The "fan" attacking the ref (later identified by wrestling sites to be Brett DiBiase) was a very bizarre spot, and pretty much symbolized the last 7-8 minutes.

The TLC match was incredible. It was another Match of the Year candidate that showcased how brutal this gimmick match can be. The uses of tables, ladders, and chairs were not forced; the action was amazingly smooth. JR's use of the word "carcinogenic" in this match was such a beautiful word to describe the action, considering Punk is straight edge and Hardy has had drug problems in the past. JR even reused the phrase "out-of-body experience" near the end. We had more than one typical Jeff Hardy sick spot, most notably the 15-foot Swanton ladder spot. The finish, while some thought it may have been flat, was very acceptable. And finally, Undertaker is Punk's next opponent. Win!

Oh, and does this mean Punk vs. Taker in a submission match at Breaking Point next month (where the world title matches are submission matches)? Sweet!

Overall rating: ***3/4

SummerSlam Preview

Rey Mysterio vs. Dolph Ziggler (IC Title): I think this or the ECW title match will be the first match on the card, in order to get the crowd pumped up. Rey is way over, as always, and him losing the belt would not do any damage to him. Dolph losing, on the other hand, would be devastating, as he lost the last time these two wrestled for the title on PPV. This should be Second-Best Match of the Night. Expect Dolph to pick up the win and get his first major title.

The Great Khali vs. Kane: So the likes of John Morrison, Kofi Kingston, and Shelton Benjamin are off the PPV for these two?! This will likely be a stinker of a match. Two big guys, one of which has a very limited moveset. If this match goes longer than 5-7 minutes, I will be surprised. Kane should pick up the win here; he needs it more than Khali.

Christian vs. William Regal (ECW Title): OK, let's think this one through. If Christian wins, he likely can go tangle with Kozlov (done before), Ezekiel Jackson (not sure if that will be good), Paul Burchill (could happen, but I think he and Hurricane are feuding), or Shelton (done before, but I would like to see it happen again).

If Regal wins, he may fight Dreamer again (please, no), or we can elevate some of the younger stars. Goldust is in a feud with Sheamus, so he's out. Yoshi Tatsu is seemingly a logical choice, given his previous matches with Regal, but ECW would not put him in a feud for the title. Tyler Reks is too green and has a crappy gimmick, in my opinion. Hurricane could step up and be a candidate as well, but Burchill may be his opponent for now. And Vince wonders why he cannot create young stars?

In short, Christian could be retaining here, but Vince could surprise me and put the belt on Regal. It should be a very good match.

Jack Swagger vs. MVP: These two rising stars should finally have a good match together on this PPV. I see MVP pulling out a win, likely with a rollup or some other fluky method to keep the feud going. I like this feud and would like to see it continue for a few more months.

Chris Jericho & Big Show vs. Shad & JTG (Unified Tag Team Titles): Cryme Tyme has been impressive lately, and I'm glad to see Jericho and Show making the effort to rejuvenate the tag division. I'm torn on this because, while Cryme Tyme needs the belts more than "JeriShow," Jericho is the best heel in the company at this point, and being one half of the unified tag champs is the only reason he is on all the shows. Despite that, I am willing to pass the torch on to Cryme Tyme. Then the Hart Dynasty could get a crack at the belts. Otherwise, we are back to square one. Expect Cryme Tyme to walk out with the gold.

Triple H & Shawn Michaels (DX) vs. Cody Rhodes & Ted DiBiase (Legacy): After all the buildup, HBK is back, and ready to kick some major ass. This should likely result in a DX win, although again, I can see Vince wanting to outsmart Internet readers and giving a fluke win to Legacy. This should be a straightforward tag match, gaining no more than **1/2.

Randy Orton vs. John Cena (WWE Title): OK, these two are facing off for the billionth time, and I am sick of it. Vince is frustrated that he cannot elevate talent, yet there have been many times where he could have elevated MVP, Mark Henry, or Jack Swagger to face a main eventer. I actually want the following to happen: Orton wins, and then Mark Henry comes out the next night on RAW to challenge him. The two have at least a little history already, and I would like something fresh. So please, for a 26th birthday present, how about some fresh RAW storylines? Winner is Orton.

Jeff Hardy vs. CM Punk (World Heavyweight Title): This is a TLC match, so this has Match of the Night written all over it. It has had tremendous buildup, and the feud history is rivaling that of Jericho/Mysterio. Jeff Hardy is expected to take some time off, but yet Internet reports say Hardy will remain with the company after SummerSlam. This is likely going to be the blow-off match between the two, and I see way more promise with a Punk win than a Hardy win. Punk would likely have his choice of Matt Hardy or John Morrison, with the former likely being Punk's next opponent. A sick finish is almost guaranteed, with Hardy either taking a death-defying risk (that misses) or Punk executing a super move to send Hardy into a bunch of tables. Punk should get the win, with this match netting over four stars, perhaps in the ****1/2 range.

OK, let's do a rundown of the show:

Wow, the show actually had two decent openers! Amazing!

Mickie vs. Gail was the worst match I've seen since Jenna/Sharmell on TNA. That's just absolutely no excuse, especially when these are supposed to be two of RAW's best women wrestlers on the active roster. Mickie failed to cover up any botches, and pretty much all the botches came when she was on the offensive. Mickie looked pissed after the match, and I don't think there's a heel turn coming just yet either.

(Sorry Red, I know I wanted to give the divas match just a slight negative, but let's face it: the match was pure crap and probably one of the bigger letdowns I've seen this year.)

Swagger and MVP barely happened, enough for a DUD.

Hornswoggle's debacle of a match was only better than the divas match because the crowd actually enjoyed it. I, however, thought it was a waste of time.

Finally, the main event tried, and failed to impress me.

Three Stars: Any three in the Steel Asylum. I was impressed with everyone in that matchup, and D'Angelo Dinero (a.k.a. Elijah Burke) had a respectable debut (although I would have had him do more to make more of an impact).

Analysis: What can I say? They started with a bang and almost everything else was horrible for a PPV. They left AJ Styles off the PPV, they left the good female wrestlers off the PPV, and this is what you get. Except for the Steel Asylum, the matches were likely stuff you could have seen on free TV. This was not worth your money to buy this PPV.

I think pairing Regal and Burchill together is a great move (both have the British background and are aggressive) and should continue for the long term, not just a one-time thing.

Random Thoughts

First of all, since I have been seemingly covering only wrestling stuff as of late, I wanted to say congratulations to Michelle Wie for making the U.S. Solheim Cup team. She definitely earned her spot and should make an impact quickly.

Now, onto wrestling matters:

1) People are now saying that Jeff Hardy will be leaving WWE after SummerSlam. This would be a huge blow, obviously, to Smackdown because Hardy has such a large following. However, from a storyline standpoint, this should be the final piece of the puzzle to spring John Morrison completely to the World Heavyweight Title picture. This would likely mean the title goes back to Punk...or we could see Morrison crafted into the title picture immediately to make it a triple threat match, and Morrison could win the title at that point. Regardless of what happens, John Morrison is undoubtedly the most successful Tough Enough graduate.

2) Please...turn Gail Kim heel. The women's title picture needs more than the girl next door, Mickie James, holding the belt. We all know - or should be led to believe - that Beth Phoenix is a force already, so having her feud with Mickie straight up would again leave others on RAW out in the cold. Instead, WWE should go through with what the rumor mill has been stirring for a while now. Turn Gail heel. We might actually have a RAW worth watching if so (if you've been keeping track of my ratings, RAW has been disastrous, while the other shows have been decent).

3) Eliminate the guest host aspect of RAW. It cements what we already knew: RAW has become nothing more than a carnival sideshow, allowing celebrities to come in and plug their work more than the upcoming PPVs or storylines. Furthermore, poor Chavo Guerrero has lost five times, in some capacity, to 4-foot Hornswoggle. Check my ratings...I don't think I gave any of those matches above a DUD.

Chavo was once part of the 2002 Smackdown Six. He has talent. Use the guy properly!

4) Elevate Kofi Kingston, MVP, Jack Swagger, and Mark Henry...fast. I am sick and tired of seeing the same guys on RAW fighting for the belt. For the last few months, it's only been HHH, Cena, Orton, Big Show, etc. Now that HHH is seemingly bringing back Shawn Michaels to reform DX and feud with Legacy, this leaves Cena battling for the gold once again. I do not want to see a Cena/Orton crapfest anymore. I want to see fresh faces battling for the top prize on RAW.

5) To me, the Unified Tag Team Titles went to the wrong people. Chris Jericho deserves more than tag team gold. He deserves a long run as a world champion. Big Show, on the other hand, needs to retire. The guy is now less mobile in the ring than before, and because he supposedly now has a devastating punch, he can't punch anyone in the face unless he wants to utilize one of his finishers. I think Big Show is now down to about 10 moves in the ring. At least John Cena moves faster. The tag titles should either have gone to Legacy or stayed with the Colons (in other words, the Colons should not have been broken up either).

6) For the love of God, can someone in WWE creative cancel the Abraham Washington Show?! Fans in attendance reported that there was a loud "This is stupid!" chant during the segment that had to be edited out. I couldn't agree more. Abraham Washington is a pathetic character and the skit is usually only saved by whatever guests he brings on his show. ECW is only one hour long, and whatever time he takes up should be used to elevate talent. Many unused wrestlers would kill for air time, and instead, it is devoted to a meaningless talk show segment?!

7) Find people to replace what is left of the 2009 Smackdown Six. We're down to CM Punk, John Morrison, Rey Mysterio, Jeff Hardy, and Chris Jericho. If Hardy does indeed leave, we are down to four. Dolph Ziggler impressed me with his match against Mysterio, and that feud should continue. Punk and Morrison, as I said earlier, should feud with each other next. Undertaker should be back at some point, and even if he's used sparingly, he should feud with Jericho once Y2J's tag title run is over. Just like that, there is a new Smackdown Six.

8) Can we please use Shelton Benjamin properly? The guy has been poorly used for the last so many years now. He should be a main eventer but instead now is in a program with Zack Ryder. Nothing against Mr. Wooo Wooo Wooo, but Shelton needs a serious feud, and I think Shelton vs. Christian would actually be excellent.

9) I'm actually interested in where this feud between Ezekiel Jackson and Vladimir Kozlov is going. This match could either be very good or very bad, and signs do point to very bad. However, you never know.

10) Finally, let's look at the title holders right now and my thoughts on each one:

WWE Title (Randy Orton): Good choice, but not the best. He is the top heel on RAW and plays the character well. But then again, something inside me wants Jack Swagger to work his way up to second-best heel and slyly get into the title picture. Can we also get fresh meat for Randy to face? How about Evan Bourne?

World Heavyweight Title (Jeff Hardy): Great choice, but not excellent anymore because Hardy is likely leaving the company. Nevertheless, Smackdown's booking is outstanding, and the title picture will not miss Hardy if and when he decides to part ways with WWE.

ECW Title (Christian): I like this choice because it gives Christian a great role as a top face, even if it's supposed to be the C show. This would have been a great time to start a nice feud with Shelton Benjamin.

United States Title (Kofi Kingston): Solid choice. The Six-Pack Challenge at Night of Champions was one of my favorite matches on that card, and if he feuds with the right people, we should see some quality stuff here.

Intercontinental Title (Rey Mysterio): Love this choice. Any match featuring Rey Mysterio should be exciting. It's also a perfect setup to elevate Dolph Ziggler and attempt to repair some of the void Edge left behind.

Unified Tag Team Titles (Chris Jericho & The Big Show): Jericho deserves more and should be a world champ. Big Show is expendable and should just retire. I like the idea of unified tag gold because the tag division sucks. However, we have Legacy, Hart Dynasty, and Cryme Tyme for starters. And who knows, if one of those teams gets the titles, we could theoretically toss makeshift tag teams comprised of unused talent to be jobbers and elevate whomever the champs may be.

Divas Title (Mickie James): I like this because the belt is on someone new and gives someone else a chance to shine. As a note, this is the one title that has been properly transitioned (McCool and Maryse had long reigns with the belt). Maryse's knee surgery opened the door for a new champ, so Mickie hopefully will follow suit and get a good amount of time with the title. Again, I want a Mickie/Gail feud!

Women's Title (Michelle McCool): The proper person is holding the belt here. The problem is the lack of challengers. So we have Melina, Maria, Eve Torres, Natalya, and Layla? Other than Melina, that's not much to choose from. We could turn Natalya face, but I like the Hart Dynasty as a brash, young heel stable. My solution? Do a trade. Put Beth Phoenix on Smackdown as a face and send Eve to RAW (I picked Eve just to keep the heel-face balance; Maria is popular on Smackdown so I left her there).
