Daniel Bryan FTW. That's two weeks in a row where I've really loved the Daniel Bryan segments. He's slowly gaining more followers, and punching Miz on the ramp only helped. He should be on the season finale of NXT, and perhaps after that, he can transition to the main roster and go after Miz on RAW. I just hope this continues.

Hell, you know what? Throw DB in a match with Miz. Book it for Fatal 4 Way. That alone should get way more people to watch.

Heath Slater was eliminated from NXT tonight, with a record of 5-6. The way things were going, it was not a surprise. He had things going for him, but the last few weeks, it was all downhill. I have to admit, he did cut a good promo at the end of the show. Christian is right, Slater does have a future, but he will definitely have to work at it to make it to the main roster.

The season finale of NXT is next week, and we will know who is the WWE's "Next Breakout Star." Not sure how that will be done. Will it be a triple threat, with the winner winning NXT? Will we have yet another Pro's Poll? Gotta tune in next week.

5/23/10 Over the Limit

Kofi Kingston vs. Drew McIntyre (IC Title): Very solid opener. Nice quick pace to start the match. Crowd definitely was into it; gotta love the Joe for hot crowds. I was a bit surprised that Kofi won it with the S.O.S., but hey, if that gives Kofi another finisher for people to watch (instead of it being just a signature move), I'm all for it. I wish the match was given more time and I wanted Drew to get in more offense; a couple more minutes of that would have gotten it to three stars. **1/2

R-Truth vs. Ted DiBiase: This was a decent match for what it was worth. Looked like the two had some chemistry problems or botches at times. Not sure if the suplex stunner (Osaka Street Cuttter) from Truth was on purpose, but either way, it looked cool. DiBiase did not get in as much offense as I would have liked, and when he did, it was quite basic. *3/4

Rey Mysterio vs. CM Punk (Punk's Hair vs. Rey Joins Straight Edge Society): One probably would have thought this would be good when it was revealed that all S.E.S. members were banned from ringside. Again, stopping the match to tend to blood...I don't like that at all. Stupid PG rating. Despite that, however, it was still a tremendous match. Great counters and moves from both men. The one thing that I love about Rey Mysterio matches is not just the unique offense from Mysterio; it's the unique offense Mysterio's opponents are able to pull off due to Rey's small size. Did not think that a simple rollup would win it. How symbolic was that when Mysterio handcuffed Punk to the ropes? Looked like Punk was getting crucified for a second there. ***1/4

Tyson Kidd & David Hart Smith vs. Chris Jericho & The Miz (Unified Tag Team Titles): Yet another great match here. Loved the numerous counters and various moves. these four work well together. This shouldn't be the last we see of JeriMiz in the Unified Tag Title picture, but I do wonder if WWE will pull the trigger on a possible Miz vs. Daniel Bryan (Bryan Danielson) feud, and if they do, I hope it is soon. **3/4

Edge vs. Randy Orton: I was expecting a lot from this match as well. However, I assume the finish had to have been changed on the fly to a double countout; it looked way too awkward for that finish to be planned. Orton dislocated his shoulder signaling for the RKO, which really sucked for him. The match was OK, but really did not have as much going for it as I would have hoped. The Orton injury really killed the match's potential, and hopefully he's not out too long. *1/2

The Big Show vs. Jack Swagger (World Heavyweight Title): This was horrible. I wasn't expecting a three-star match, but I was at least hoping for more than this. Perhaps it was more due to time constraints or what not. A DQ, really?! The post-match activities were better than the match itself. The bottom line: Swagger did not impress me tonight, and neither did Big Show. They both fail. 1/4*

Eve Torres vs. Maryse (Divas Title): Not a bad match, but not much to write home about, either. Crowd was pretty indifferent on the match, as usual, but at least they showed signs of life at a couple points. Good moves from Eve -- even a couple of new ones I never saw from her before -- while Maryse got in a few basic moves. 3/4*

John Cena vs. Batista (I Quit; WWE Title): Well, I was at least hoping this match would be good; a lot of time was given to this. But of course, I keep forgetting that WWE usually goes off the air about 15 minutes before the top of the hour. The storyline buildup told a good story, but the match, in my book, failed to deliver. It certainly did not feel like a big-time match. The trainer tending to Cena's cut did not help at all. Their Last Man Standing Match was way better...way better. If I were Batista, I would have preferred to go out last month -- and change the ending of the LMS match to a better finish. This was an even crappier way for Cena to win. Last month was duct tape -- which was tolerable because they did exhaust all moves. But here, Batista quit merely from Cena threatening to do an Attitude Adjustment on Batista from off the top of the car? Seriously?! That's it?! But hey, at least we got to see the Spanish table busted! ***1/4

Overall Rating: This PPV was on par with Sacrifice...not worth your money. WWE and TNA had a horrible month. Quite frankly, as sad as this may sound, TNA's PPV was better than this one. *3/4

Darren Young was eliminated from NXT tonight. He did have a 7-4 record, tied for the best record, but apparently just did not have the "It" factor that the pros look for. I agree with that and although Young wanted to look like a nice guy tonight on his way out, the WWE Universe can be quite harsh.

Frankly, the next eliminations will be much harder. The four remaining rookies -- Barrett, Otunga, Slater, and Gabriel -- all possess the ability to make it to the main roster. Barring any surprises, the way this is being booked, either Barrett or Otunga will win NXT.

I did not rate Bret/Miz because it really was not much of a match. Perhaps then I should have refrained from rating Bret's encounter with Vince at WM, but again, that WM match had been given so much hype that I just had to rate it and criticize it to no end.

5/16/10 Sacrifice

Chris Sabin & Alex Shelley vs. James Storm & Robert Roode vs. Brother Ray & Brother Devon: Very nice opener. MCMG was the reason this match ruled. The crowd marked for virtually all their moves. All three teams just gel so well with one another. Very good stuff. ***

Rob Terry vs. Orlando Jordan (Global Title): Slow pace -- too slow. Too formulaic of a match. Very abrupt finish. Just no real flow whatsoever. Horrid. I hope this storyline ends soon. DUD

Douglas Williams vs. Kazarian (X-Division Title): People like myself may prefer the high-flying acrobatics that Kazarian or Shannon Moore could bring, but you have to give Williams credit for having a superior mat wrestling attack. Kazarian can really adapt to any style, which makes things even better for the X-Division. Scary moment there with Kazarian hitting the bottom buckles on the buckle bomb, but he's fine. Great match. **3/4

Madison Rayne vs. Tara (Career vs. Title; Knockouts Title): Average match. Nice mat wrestling with numerous pinfall attempts. Tara got in almost all her signature moves, including the Widow's Peak. However, Rayne really didn't impress me. I think it was an OK performance for Tara to go out on. *

Kevin Nash & Scott Hall vs. Shannon Moore & Jesse Neal (Tag Team Titles): OK, Scott Hall had to have gained a bunch of pounds since the last PPV. Match was basic and quite pathetic. Scott Hall couldn't sell Shannon Moore's offense for beans. The crowd cared only when the kendo stick came into play. DUD

Abyss vs. Desmond Wolfe (Chelsea vs. Ring): Decent storytelling. Nice split crowd. Good moves, but not much stood out. Oh wow, Abyss is a reincarnated version of Hulk Hogan...big yawn. These two lacked chemistry. At least maybe it will be interesting how Chelsea will be used as Abyss' "property." *1/2

Jeff Hardy vs. Mr. Anderson: Good match. These two may work well together one day. However, they seemed pretty lost tonight, especially during the go-home sequence. It seemed like a few spots were either botched or improvised. Match seemed to end pretty abruptly. **1/4

Sting vs. Jeff Jarrett: This wasn't even a match, so I'm not rating it. Simply put, we had a savage beatdown, bell rings, and Sting hits the Scorpion Death Drop for the pin. If anything, the storyline progresses. N/A

Rob Van Dam vs. AJ Styles (World Title): Well, this was the match of the night, but that's not saying much. Very slow start with a bunch of mind games. I must say, I will never get tired of seeing Flair's antics around ringside -- especially when he gets caught and gets thrown out. Hebner shoving Flair down was awesome. That was one impressive monkey flip on AJ -- talk about getting launched into the stratosphere. These two work extremely well together. The moves look doubly or triply impressive. However, these two looked very tired near the end, and the pace definitely slowed. Was it really necessary for Flair to come down and then have Jay Lethal cut Flair off? ***1/4

MVPs: None. The show stunk. Even though the main event was good, I expected way more.

Overall Rating: This was not a good PPV. A couple of very horrible matches, and even a match that could have been good (Hardy/Anderson) was pretty subpar. The main event should have been way better. Quite frankly, I'm glad I missed this PPV to attend my law school graduation and my friend's grad party. **

5/14/10 Mercury Rising

(taped March 27, 2010; aired May 14, 2010)

Shingo vs. Genki Horiguchi: Very nice opening match. Lots of great counters and action. A couple of false finishes amped up the rating. I guess I just felt like I wanted to see more action. Physicality was very good and the crowd was into it, but they were not going bonkers over it. ***1/4

Jimmy Jacobs & Jack Evans vs. Paul London & Brian Kendrick: The person who lost the fall would have to leave Dragon Gate forever. Good action here. Evans brought his acrobatic, high-risk style as usual. The real story, however, seemed to be closing the story between Jacobs and Kendrick, and I really had no clue as to why London and Evans were even in the match in the first place. Too bad London and Kendrick were only seemingly together for this one match. Looks like Kendrick is headed to TNA more now as he appears to be written out of Dragon Gate USA. **

Jon Moxley vs. Tommy Dreamer (Street Fight): Started a little slow for me, but I liked the action on the outside. Crowd was into it. We had your typical no-DQ spots with a few weapons and outside interference. Other than that, I didn't think there was much to write home about. **1/4

YAMATO vs. Susumu Yokosuka (Open the Dream Gate Title): Tremendous match. It was hard-hitting and produced several false finishes. The one thing I love about DG USA is that the wrestlers have so many finishers or signature moves -- such that you really don't know when it may end. This was no exception. ****

BxB Hulk, Naruki Doi, & Masato Yoshino vs. CIMA, Dragon Kid, & Gamma: Hell yeah. The match of the night for sure, and even the match of the year (sorry, Taker/HBK). While I have seen their in-ring work before, these six never fail to impress me. Outstanding double-team and triple-team moves. The pace slowed a couple of times, but otherwise was very fast. There were numerous false finishes and the crowd was going crazy. The kendo stick shot from the top rope to the nuts of BxB Hulk...just sick. That hurt ME. The kendo stick shots even provided some comedic relief, which was also awesome. The last 10 minutes were just incredible. Fitting that the fans were chanting "Arigatoo!" ("Thank you!" in Japanese) at the end. Still in awe at the match. ****3/4

Overall Rating: A nice opener, a couple of good matches after that, and then two excellent matches at the end. The six-man tag is unlikely to be beaten for MOTY, but who knows, they could outdo themselves. WWE, TNA, and even ROH will not top that match. This was a very successful PPV. ****

Yay! An NXT without stupid competitions!

Wow. Talk about curveballs. So WWE management eliminates Daniel Bryan (finishing with an official NXT record of 0-10) and Michael Tarver (1-7) based on what they said last week. Then Skip Sheffield (2-5) got voted off by being last in the second Pro's Poll.

Does this mean David Otunga is winning the entire thing? Or maybe it will be Wade Barrett? Now I'm really confused as to who the frontrunner really is.

In any event, I would expect Daniel Bryan to show up on WWE programming in the very near future anyway -- likely on RAW to face Miz. Last night, a friend told me that some people on the internet thought of having Daniel Bryan be an "honorary Hart" and face Miz for the U.S. Title in place of Bret Hart next week on RAW. Who knows...that might actually happen now.

Just remember what Daniel Bryan said on his last NXT promo tonight. "Daniel Bryan" took Batista to the limit but couldn't beat any NXT rookies. However, "Bryan Danielson" was the one who made a name for himself and kicked ass all over the world. Could it be a repackaging in progress and will it be Bryan Danielson on RAW to face Miz?

4/3/10 The Big Bang!

Phil Shatter vs. Jack Salvation: Very solid opening match. Very nice crowd reaction as well, mainly because these two are well known in the area. I might not know who these two are, but it was well done. **1/2

Davey Richards vs. Kenny King: Loved the match. Amazing crowd reaction, excellent action, awesome counters. Everything you want in a great match. ****

Necro Butcher vs. Erick Stevens (Butcher's Rules): I loved the crowd reaction, but the match was otherwise too straightforward. A rollup won the match?! Good grief. *1/2

Rhett Titus vs. Cassandro El Exotico: I have never seen so many sexual mind games in my life. Loved the lucha libre moves El Exotico pulled off. Apparently, Prazak said during the Kings of Wrestling/Briscoes match that El Exotico broke his leg near the end of the match. That explains the rollup finish. **3/4

El Generico & Colt Cabana vs. Kevin Steen & Steve Corino: Another great tag team match, mainly for the nice storytelling (especially between Steen and Generico). Flow of the match was good. A few nice moves thrown in (including that sick powerbomb against the ring apron), but otherwise, nothing much stood out. DQ finish was lame. ***

Claudio Castagnoli & Chris Hero vs. Jay Briscoe & Mark Briscoe (Tag Team Titles): A match-of-the-year candidate. Lots of false finishes and exciting moments. Crowd reaction was great, but not the loudest I have ever seen. To me, the end hurt the rating, but it made sense to finish it that way after all the physicality. ****

Tyler Black vs. Austin Aries vs. Roderick Strong (Elimination Triple Threat; World Title): Excellent match. Again, a lot of false finishes and exciting moments. Crowd definitely into it, but not the loudest. This one seems to get the nod over the tag match because there were more impactful moves and better storyline progression. ****1/4

Magno & Blue Demon, Jr. vs. Misterioso & Super Parka: Um, OK.... This should have gone before the triple threat -- if even on the card at all. I didn't understand why the chair was allowed. And then Misterioso was unmasked, which seems OK because he was already unmasked years before. The match was just confusing to me. I liked the hard slaps and some of the lucha moves, but this was more comedy relief than anything else. The crowd liked it, but I cannot rate this because I have no idea how to rate this. Some parts seemed great, others were just weird. N/A

Overall Rating: Three matches were match-of-the-year candidates. A bunch of the other matches were respectable to great. The lucha main event is the only problem I had with the show. Talk about the wrong match at the wrong time.... But overall, a successful PPV. ***3/4
